Headache Q & A

How prevalent are headaches?

Primary headache disorders are one of the most common neurological complaints worldwide, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Headaches are also among the most frequent reasons for missed days for work and visits to the doctor. A primary headache is one that does not have another underlying cause, such as a tumor or sinus infection. There are numerous types of primary headaches. The most common are tension headaches, characterized by pain on both sides of the head. Migraines are the second most common headaches. Migraine pain is usually severe, and accompanied by other symptoms, as well. These other symptoms typically include nausea, vomiting, lightheadedness, and a sensitivity to light (photophobia), and/or other visual issues.

How is headache and migraine pain treated at Integrity Pain & Wellness?

As with all types of pain, chronic or acute, the physicians at the practice offer a highly personalized and caring approach to treatment. They actively listen to patients, discuss treatment options and outcome expectations, and always make time to answer questions in easy-to-understand detail. The entire Integrity team is versed in the latest, cutting-edge treatment options and frequently implement a multimodal approach.

What is Integrity Pain & Wellness’s approach to medication?

Integrity Pain & Wellness is committed to providing the most effective and individualized treatment plan possible. This often means employing a multidisciplinary approach in which medication is used in combination with non-drug therapies to prevent and relieve headache pain. Doctors at Integrity Pain & Wellness use medication on a temporary basis, while the underlying cause of pain is diagnosed and addressed. Medication, like all treatment at the practice, is strategized in a highly personalized manner. Our physicians understand that the choice and dose of medication that works for one patient, is not necessarily the best option for another, even with the same symptoms.
